Turning a Shitty Day Around

Stressful work days definitely take a toll on me, and lately, they've been occurring more often than not. I try to make it a ritual that once I'm home, I leave the work stuff on the other side of the door, but sometimes, it seeps its nasty little way inside, and I find myself dwelling on work situations at a time when I should be relaxing, restoring, recharging, and leaving it all behind. I didn't have the best day yesterday, and that mood spilled over into the evening, throughout the night, into this morning, and the majority of today. But, I promised myself that once work was over, I was going to create an enjoyable evening for myself, and because I spoke it into existence, it happened. This method doesn't always work - trust me, I have tried many a day to speak things into existence. But today, it worked. I think God wanted to give me a break for the super shitty week I've been having.

When you're feeling beat down from your 9-5, take a moment for yourself. Indulge in your favorite things for the rest of the evening, and block out the day's bullshit. I ordered a carryout of way too much food for dinner from one of my favorite casual restaurants, came home, lit my current favorite candle, caught up on some of my favorite TV shows on Hulu, and listened to 90s and 00s R&B. It's the simple things that make me forget my worries, even if it's just for a little while.

Don't let anyone or anything steal your joy, and if you happen to get knocked down, don't stay down. Try to find some joy in every day. No one has the right to make you feel like shit without your consent.
