Urban Bush Babe: Nikisha Brunson
Nikisha Brunson is a woman of many talents. Where do I start? Well, she's the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the popular blog Urban Bush Babes, she runs her own lifestyle blog, Pineapple.Life in addition to having her own natural line of skincare products, Folie Apothecary, and she knows how to get down in the kitchen. She has effortless style and great hair, and let's face it, that's a talent in and of itself. She loves sharing her outfits, wellness tips, and healthy smoothie recipes with her 66,000+ Instagram followers, as well as quotes that inspire her. I discovered Nikisha earlier this year, and I've really enjoyed her content, her honesty and transparency, and her willingness to continue getting up everyday to do the things that inspire her despite some of the challenges she's faced in her life. Makes me think of the quote, "I'm so glad I don't look like what I've been through."
From the outside looking in, it may seem as if Nikisha lives a pretty awesome life. But things have not always been this way for her, as she's been very transparent about her upbringing and certain struggles that she endured. As a kid, she dealt with bullying, abuse, and lack of self-love. She became pregnant at 16, dealt with depression and anxiety throughout her college years into adulthood, and attempted suicide at one point, but one day, she decided to stop feeling sorry for herself, and through talks with God, found the strength to work on becoming a better person, a better woman, a better mother.
"I'm the same person outside of my profession because there is no separation. Everything I do in my work life is how I live day-to-day. I'm a health enthusiast (mental, physical, and spiritual). I'm also a creative, so I'm making something with my hands everyday, from cooking to apothecary. I love minimalist fashion that looks like art. I love music and film. I'm a hardcore thriller/horror fan. I also think I'm a comedian. I'm a wife and a mom. I share all these things in my profession." - Excerpt from her interview with The Style Line
What I believe her followers love most about her is the fact that she keeps it real. There are no facades. "Make sure you stay true to your authentic self no matter what. If you walk in that everyday, you will give persmission to others to be authentic and stay true to themselves."
