Unwinding After a Long Week & a Quick Note on Self-Care
Oh Friday, we meet again. I previously talked about how Friday is my favorite day of the week, and how going to work for eight hours is completely agonizing because all I do is daydream about being at home (maybe I didn't mention that part). Plus, my home is my happy place. I'm always excited to hang out here! And especially so when I am not obligated to leave the house for the next two days.
Now that we've transitioned into fall weather, I'm going to be indoors more than I normally am, and there will be lots more Netflix, Hulu, wine, books, and music to keep me occupied. I have quite a few books that I've purchased over the past couple years, but haven't read yet. The thing with me and books is that I really have to be in the mood to sit still long enough to read them. I'll start reading one, then get completely side-tracked, and won't revisit it for weeks, sometimes months, or worse, begin reading a completely different one. I need to focus on one at a time, or is reading more than one book at at time actually a thing? The great thing about books is that once you buy them, they're yours forever, so there's no real rush to read them. But, I'd love to be able to say that I finished the one I initally started last winter. What an embarrassment.
I'm a firm believer in spending time alone to restore and recharge. It's when I thrive the most. It's important for your mental health, and I don't think people make this a priority the way they should. I am no stranger to self-care, but lately, that's been the "in" phrase as if it's some new craze that just emerged out of thin air. Taking care of yourself and spending time alone shouldn't be something you're forced to do, or end up doing because you have no other options. It should come as naturally as breathing, and it makes a world of difference.
Remember, you're no good to anyone else unless you're good to yourself first.
