Elevate Your Skincare With Raw Honey + The Importance of a Daily Regimen / Words by Samara

"Your skin is so pretty!" I've heard that practically all of my life. The truth is, I haven't always been good to my skin, but drinking water like a fish, in addition to genetics, has definitely helped. When I decided to attend Aveda Institute in 2010 to become an esthetician, I had no idea what was in store. I just knew I wanted to help people relax, and provide quality facials. That education and hands-on experience left me thirsty; it created a desire to constantly learn about skin and the care of it, beyond what I learned within those walls. And I have been doing just that ever since.
So, why is a daily skin care regimen so important? Aside from the fact that the skin on your face is the most delicate, your skin is the largest organ on your body and performs multiple functions vital to your overall health. Healthy skin matters, and contrary to popular belief, you don't need to buy a gazillion expensive products with a load of ingredients you can't pronounce. Most commercial skin care products contain irritants and fragrances that can clog pores and disrupt the skin's natural process. Trust me when I say, less is more.

There's no denying, I'm a product junkie although I'm super selective about what I put on my face as far as brands go; I love Acure Organics and Aveda just to name a few, but I am also known to keep it simple. My favorite cleanser is honey. Yes, honey. It provides amazing benefits for the skin. It's anti-aging, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It's a natural exfoliant and natural humectant, which means it retains moisture. Keep in mind, the type of honey used is very important. You should look for organic, raw, unfiltered honey from a local organic market or whole foods.
To follow up this cleanser, I like to use rosewater as a toner and rosehip seed oil to moisturize, while the skin is still damp. These are also super simple, powerful tools to include in your regimen.

Now that you know why you should say yes to this sweet nectar, dive in and above all, be patient! Some results are indeed immediate but it can take weeks or months to see a true difference in your skin. The key is consistency. Stick with it. Your skin will thank you!
