What is Your Decor Style?

My interior decor style has changed a lot throughout the years. I believe that as you evolve, your style evolves right along with you. At one point, I was really into contemporary furniture. I had an Eggplant-colored microfiber sofa with two matching chairs, and trust me, that era was a very short-lived one. I only kept those pieces for a few months before I sold them on Craigslist. They weren't hideous, but through trial and error, I realized that the contemporary decor style was just not for me.
After the Eggplant era and through more trial and error, I began to gain a feel for my signature style. I knew that at that point, I didn't care for super matchy-matchy pieces and/or accessories (I developed more of an asymmetric style) and from there, I just started really paying attention to what I was naturally drawn to. I believe my style is a mixture of many things. I have officially named it "transitional and ever-changing," but primarily, it's a mix of modern and eclectic, with touches of ethnic textiles, lots of plant life, and layering. I've taken many a decor quiz, and they all point to some level of eclectic, so I think it's safe to say that there's some truth to it. I can live with that.

In other news, I received another goodie in the mail today (I can't seem to stay off of Amazon). I purchased Justina Blakeney's first book, The New Bohemians: Cool & Collected Homes. I haven't had a chance to fully dive into it yet, but I skimmed it, and aesthetically, it's everything I hoped it would be. The book focuses on the unconventional style of bohemian and eclectic decor, and is broken into different categories of bohemian style, including modern, folksy, nomadic, earthy, romantic, and maximal.

"Decorating is about feeling free, having fun, rejecting traditional notions about what goes with what (especially that everything in a room has to match), and getting a little bit wild." - Justina Blakeney
